Professional Background
Professional BackgroundDr. Celso Acevedo is a successful cardiologist specializing in cardiac electrophysiology, currently serving as a valued member of the Cardiovascular Institute of Central Florida, LLC since February 2024. With a career spanning over two decades, Dr. Acevedo has held esteemed positions in leading medical institutions across the United States.
From January 2009 to January 2024, Dr. Acevedo served as the Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology at AdventHealth in Ocala, Florida, where he made significant contributions to the advancement of cardiac care in the region. Notably, he was the first to introduce cardiac electrophysiology to our community 15 years ago, pioneering advancements in the field. Prior to this, he practiced as a Cardiac Electrophysiologist at Cardiology Associates of Fort Lauderdale, Fort Lauderdale, FL, from June 2006 to 2009 and at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, from July 2003 to June 2006.
Dr. Acevedo pursued his postgraduate training with dedication and excellence. He completed his Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship at the University of Louisville, Louisville, KY, from July 2002 to June 2003, followed by a Cardiology Fellowship at Western Pennsylvania Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA, from July 1999 to June 2002. His journey in medicine began with an Internal Medicine Internship at Western Pennsylvania Hospital from July 1996 to June 1999, after earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, San Juan, PR.
Throughout his career, Dr. Acevedo has been recognized for his exceptional skills and contributions. He received the Physician of the Quarter award in 2007 from Holy Cross Hospital, Fort Lauderdale, FL, and the prestigious “Golden Torch” Award for Patient Satisfaction in 2006 from Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. His dedication to teaching and mentorship was honored with the Teachers of the Year Award in 2005 at Allegheny General Hospital’s Cardiology Fellowship Program.
Dr. Acevedo holds academic appointments as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA, where he imparts his expertise in clinical cardiac electrophysiology to fellows. His special interests lie in device therapy for heart failure, the role of echocardiography in electrophysiology, and ablative therapy for arrhythmias, including ventricular tachycardia and AFIB ablations.
